More recently, Augusta, Georgia is home to Clint Eastwood in The Mule (2018). These blockbuster Avengers movies have been created here: Many popular super hero movies have been filmed in the Atlanta metro area in the past ten years. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was filmed in 2013, followed a year later by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. While the original Hunger Games was filmed in neighboring North Carolina in 2012, Georgia garnered two sequels. Savannah figures prominently in the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil from 1997 featuring Kevin Spacey. Jekyll Island, Georgia has hosted several movies, to include scenes from The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) with Matt Damon and Will Smith and X-Men: First Class (2011). The coastal region of Georgia has been a popular filming site. Remember the Titans (2000) starring Denzel Washington was filmed on location in several Georgia High schools as it dealt with racial integration on a high school football team in Virginia, set in the 1970’s. My Cousin Vinny (1992) filmed here starred Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei, who won Best Supporting Actress that year. Driving Miss Daisy(1989), starring Jessica Tandy, Morgan Freeman and Dan Akroyd won four Oscars that year to include Best Picture and Best Actress. Two Academy Award winning films were made here during this timeframe. The North Georgia landscape figured prominently as Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and John Voight struggled with the whitewater rapids and suspicious locals. In the classic Deliverance, the Chattooga River separating Georgia from South Carolina represented the fictional Cahulawassee River. Famous among them are Deliverance (1972) and Smokey and the Bandit (1977). In the 1970’s until around the year 2000, movies filmed in Georgia were mostly stereotypical Southern themes. There is even a replica of the White House and Oval Office. The historic Army fort provides ideal backdrops for many sets, including a bank, a chapel, a jail, a diner, a farmhouse and a rustic cabin. Twelve state of the art sound stages have been built-each named for a prominent African American in the industry. This location is in the heart of Atlanta, just south of downtown. Tyler Perry Studios acquired 330 acres of the former Fort McPherson U.S. They have produced many blockbuster movies, such as the Avengers series. Trilith is being developed as a live/work destination for production crews, with amenities, parks and restaurants in close proximity to the studios. Just south of Atlanta in Fayetteville, Georgia is Trilith Studios, set on 700 acres with 24 sound stages. Trilith Studios and Tyler Perry Studios are the two largest productions companies with over 1,000 acres of sets within the Atlanta metro. Lastly, there has been huge investment in infrastructure within the state. Credits apply not only to movies, but to TV and music video production as well. The Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act provides for tax credits in exchange for marketing and promotional support for the state. Second, the state has worked hard to lure the industry with tax incentives. We have every type of location from small towns, cabins, farms, and historic buildings up to a large modern city in our capital, Atlanta. It doesn’t hurt that we have world’s busiest airport here along with gorgeous scenery for filming-from our beaches to our mountains.
